The coat of arms of Faetano castle features a beech tree. In fact, it is thought that the place name "Castrum Faetani" or "Fegetani", derives from "fagus" or beech, even though the beech woods are no longer there today. It is said that after the fortress built by the Malatesta family was knocked down following its annexation to the Republic in 1463, as a result of spontaneous submission, an enormous stone rose in place of the fortress, on which a large beech tree stood. In the early years of the last century, a sulphur mine was opened in Faetano, but it was closed after a few years because it was not productive enough. Sport fishing is practised at the artificial lake.
The historic centre of Faetano Castle includes the Church of St Paul the Apostle, consecrated in 1917, whose façade is embellished with bronze works by E. Mattei on the life of St Paul. There is also the Casa del Castello with a stone bell tower that contains the oldest clock in the Republic from the Parva Domus in San Marino City.
Memorial stone by Anselmo Giardini and Gabriele Geminiani - bronze and stone from 2008 - dedicated to the Battle of Montepulito and to the memory of the tragic events of the Second World War. In Montepulito, in 1944, German and British troops (the Gurkha of the 4th Indian Division) clashed in the fields and houses of the area.
