The Via Romea Germanica traces the journey made by the monk Alberto di Stade in 1236 towards Rome. About 1022 km long, it starts from Ausburg and crosses the Po Valley.
The Fortress is composed of three distinct architectural and defensive constructions: the Girone, the Rocca and the Medicean Arsenals. Inside the Fortress is set up the Historical Museum of the Castle and the City.
The castle overlooks the Porta Romana towards Forlì, it has an angular and stellar shape and was the seat of the customs officer after the disarmament of 1772.
