Palazzo Ordelaffi, currently the seat of the town hall, dates back to 1306, built by Pino I Ordelaffi when he took over Bertinoro, driving out the Guelphs. Its massive Byzantine and Roman style columns made of local stone date back to a period before the 14th century, while the wall texture is made of residual material. It is believed, in fact, that the construction of the Palace took place using material from pre-existing buildings. While the Ghibelline battlements are the work of the neo-medieval style restoration carried out by the architect Cesare Bazzani in 1934. Of particular importance are the two rooms on the main floor: the Sala del Popolo, for city meetings, and the Sala della Fama, better known as the Sala Paintings because inside it preserves the cycle of canvases dedicated to the history of Bertinoro by the painter Antonio Zambianchi (1748-1780). Palazzo Ordelaffi, with its tower, is the guardian of the civil and historical memories of Bertinoro. Although restored in the 1930s, the palace maintains its medieval charm intact. In its name it bears the memory of the indomitable Ordelaffi, lords of Forlì and Bertinoro, among the first to offer refuge to Dante Alighieri and who throughout the 14th century opposed the return of Romagna under the government of the Papal States. Here the spike, thanks to its rough beauty, uses the play of light to almost design the façade of the building and its imposing civic tower. Its colonnade, with its barbaric-style capitals, symbolizes the indispensable desire for beauty of the Bertinoro people. Palace of beauty and symbol of indispensable freedom, defended with gritted teeth even when the bishops wanted to demolish it to make room for the Cathedral of Saint Catherine of Alexandria.
Around the thirteenth century, a column with 12 rings was built to put an end to the continuous clashes between the noble families of the place. Each ring corresponded to a family: when the pilgrim arrived in Bertinoro and tied his stick or his horse to one of the rings he was hosted by the family that owned the ring.
The particular vocation of the hills around Bertinoro to the cultivation of vines is well known, to which generations and generations of Bertinoro residents have dedicated themselves over the centuries. The bronze monument, the work of the sculptor Mario Bertozzi of Forlimpopoli, was erected in Largo Cairoli and inaugurated on 5 September 1976, the day of the Hospitality Festival, on the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of the resurrected Colonna degli Anelli. Every year, on the occasion of the Hospitality Festival, the rite of the new winemaker takes place at the foot of this work and a parchment is given to a winemaker who has undertaken this activity for the first time or in a new way during the year .
The Bell of Albana entered Bertinoro on 3 September 1989, after two years of intense work by the artist Guerrino Bardeggia. In 1987, in fact, the Municipality of Bertinoro and the Tribunato dei Vini di Romagna had entrusted him with the task of creating a bell celebrating Albana and the winemaking tradition of Bertinoro and Romagna, proud and satisfied that Albana, as the first white wine of Italy, had received the recognition of D.O.C.G. wine in that year. The initial location of the Bell of Albana was the Clock Tower, next to the Town Hall, so that with its chimes it would mark the unfolding of the hours of each day. However, in this way, the public was deprived of the opportunity to admire the high reliefs that adorn it. In 1994 a suitable structure was therefore created and the Bell of Albana was finally placed on the Balcony of Romagna where it is possible for everyone to ring it to remind Romagna of its winemaking tradition. Once a year, however, its chimes become the announcement of the start of the grape harvest for Bertinoro.
