It is an ancient maritime village just a few minutes from Rimini and a vacation destination since the early '900. Today Bellaria-Igea Marina is a modern and charming town still on a human scale. The golden beach, the genuine gastronomy, the green of Gelso Park, the sport facilities, the cultural events and shows make vacations and city life pleasant.
For lovers of water sports: the Circolo Velico Rio Pircio, located directly on the beach of Igea Marina, is a club with a sailing and windsurfing school, registered with the Italian Sailing Federation (F.I.V.). During the summer, sporting events aimed at tourists are organized to transmit the passion for the sea and its aquatic activities.
Those who love spending their free time in the open air between nature and culture begin the "Sentieri per l'Uso" route in Bellaria Igea Marina: a panoramic cycle-pedestrian path starting on Via Ravenna in Bellaria, (right bank of the River Uso) and colleague Bellaria I.M. to the neighboring territory of San Mauro. The path winds for approximately 6 kilometers along the river strip and connects the municipalities of Bellaria Igea Marina and San Mauro Pascoli. Along the route there are 9 rest areas equipped with benches, picnic tables, games and information panels: the river course has in fact recently been redeveloped for tourist-recreational and educational-environmental purposes. Along the route there are various centers of historical and cultural interest such as: Villa Torlonia (18th century), Santa Margherita Church (18th century), former Donegallia Abbey and Benelli Castle. The route and its verdant panorama is ideal for cyclists, walkers and lovers of outdoor activities.
Viale Paolo Guidi, known as Isola dei platani, represents the natural commercial center of Bellaria Igea Marina, the hub of shopping and city aggregation. The pedestrian avenue in the center of Bellaria was named after a young war hero, Paolo Guidi, however today it is better known as "Viale or Isola dei Platani" due to the imposing plane trees that frame it. The urban restyling of the avenue dates back to 1986 when it was converted into a pedestrian area. The street furniture work, closed to traffic, gives the Bellaria center an area of greenery and well-kept flowerbeds, where you can walk in peace among the bars and commercial activities inside; Furthermore, along its course there are also the A. Panzini municipal library and the historic Astra Theatre, home of the famous "Bellaria Igea Marina Film Festival".
The historic district of Borgata Vecchia is the oldest in the city. Built in the Middle Ages as "Borgo Osteria", it was a small center of inns, taverns, artisan shops and blacksmiths. It constituted the first urbanized center of the city from which the port and seaside annexes later branched out. Today it is a meeting place and place for folkloristic events; since the early 1990s numerous events have been organized there such as the popular music festival "La Borgata che dance", the "Giro d'estate nella Borgata Vecchia" and the "Palio dei Saraceni". Furthermore, today the streets of the Borgata Vecchia host a real open-air art gallery with pictorial and sculptural works by local artists. Today the village is embellished with a real "open-air art gallery". On the walls of the houses and along the streets, there are murals, paintings on panels and sculptures by local artists: Antonella Orlandi, Corrado Stievano, Secondo Vannini, Angelo Bartolini, Eros Giorgetti, Gino Lazzarini, Giovanni Morigi, Marino Barbanti, Mourad Jahrani, Noemi Berardi, Sandro Vasini, Sarango Lyan Ly, Sergio Barberini, Silvano Lazzarini, Vera Berardi.
Built in 1929, this imposing complex set within a vast park is the symbol of the heliotherapy structures created by the fascist regime in Bellaria Igea Marina. As is known, the plan of the main building - promoted by the Opera Previdenza e Assistenza Ferrovieri Statali - presents a layout with a concave profile in the central part which, together with the lateral wings, draws a large M facing the sea. Unused for many years, in 2023 the park will host a summer arena, whose calendar includes cinema, theater and local festival events, for programming suitable for the whole family.
Alfredo Panzini's "Casa Rossa", so called because of its purple-red color in the roadman's house style, dates back to 1909 when the writer, fond of Bellaria Igea Marina, built his summer villa in the Cagnona district. The house stands on a dune that runs alongside the railway and overlooks a large garden park. At the time, due to its monumental position, Panzini's summer house was called by the people "e palàz" (the palace). The building with its simple architecture and sober appearance recalls a typical roadman's house: it is formed with two floors and a basement, plus an annex dedicated to guests. On the external walls there are ceramic shards set with the titles of the author's main works; all around there is a garden park with rich Mediterranean vegetation and Finotti's small farm , Panzini's favorite sharecropper. The "Casa Rossa" has always represented an important cultural center thanks to the meetings organized by Panzini and his wife Clelia, (a refined painter whose works are still present in the house) with local artists and writers and surrounding areas. In 2004 the property was acquired by the Municipality of Bellaria I.M. and today both the House and the Park are open to the public: the house has also been established as a Museum with the quality mark of the Institute for Artistic Heritage Cultural and Natural Museums of the Emilia Romagna Region and adheres to the museum networks "The Museum Houses of Poets and Writers of Romagna" as well as "ReMus-Museum network of the two rivers Marecchia and Uso". Inside, the domestic environments can be visited: living room, study, bedroom, a particularly valuable bathroom as well as Panzini's manuscripts and his iconic bicycle.
The former Fornace di Bellaria Igea Marina, built in 1925, is located in the street of the same name in the city, and was home to a brick factory until the 1960s. In the following years, it was converted into a space for processing plastic materials and a tool warehouse, but in recent times, after the redevelopment interventions started in 2003 and never completed, the complex ended up in a complete state of abandonment. The complex has over 9,500 m2 of buildings and 68,000 m2 of land, including the former clay quarry, which has now become a lake rich in fish fauna, with a surface area of approximately 24,000 m2 which makes it the largest water basin in the municipal area . The former Fornace was acquired by the Municipal Administration with the intention of handing over the structure into the hands of the community, taking the opportunity to encourage the recovery and valorisation of a versatile and strategic area of the territory. The building is closed to the public and can only be visited from the outside, with the exception of temporary openings during specific events and events.
The Tower of Bellaria was built in 1673 by the Apostolic Chamber in the coastal fortification plan, the only one left with the original characteristics of the six present with three floors covered by vaults and an internal spiral staircase. Over time, the function of the towers was transformed to host the quarantine of suspected contagions coming from the sea for commercial traffic, especially from Genoa, and for surveillance against smugglers. More recently the Bellaria Tower hosted the barracks of the Guardia di Finanza.
The Center is the new cultural center of the city, sensitive to the themes of Art, Music, Entertainment, Nature and the Environment, a constant point of reference for the young generations on these issues. The building is named after Vittorio Belli (1870-1953), father of Igea Marina, doctor and philanthropist. A visionary man of culture, concrete and open to the new, an expert in art history and botany, Dr. Belli, leaves a legacy to our community with an idea of entrepreneurship aimed at improving the living conditions of the community, with the value of nature, love for art and culture at its centre. The Centre, managed by the InArte association. Projects of Cultural Integration, houses the Municipal School of Music on the first floor; on the ground floor art workshops, exhibitions and market exhibitions of young local artists; musical and literary meetings, culinary and theater workshops.
A museum that meets the interest and curiosity of adults and children, located on the upper floors of the Saracen Tower (17th century) - The Shell Museum presents a rich malacological collection. The pieces on display from all over the world constitute a notable cultural heritage: in part they belong to the Desideri di Roma collection, purchased by the Municipality of Bellaria I.M. and ordered by the Institute of Zoology of the University of Bologna. It is a conspicuous series of shells, molluscs, crustaceans, turtle shells, skeletons of marine and madreporary organisms. Among the most valuable pieces are some nautilus from the Indian Ocean, pearl oysters and rare vessels used by the Argonaut for incubating eggs. On the outside, around the Tower, the "Garden of Sails" opens up: a suggestive display of ancient fishing tools, traditional lug sails, vintage boats and objects related to seafaring activities. The Museum joins "ReMus": Museum network of the two rivers - Marecchia and Uso.
The building of the old slaughterhouse, built in 1926, houses the EXHIBITION "THE STREET, THE VILLA AND THE PIEVE". The exhibition houses some finds that help us understand daily activities, acts of devotion and funerary uses of the ancient inhabitants who populated the stretch of territory crossed by the Popilia coastal road. The attention for the Roman era focuses on the function of the road as a place where the commercial activities of the villas scattered in the rural area converged, first of all the one discovered in 2010 on the Biasini property: it is not by chance that the extraordinary figured polychrome mosaic. Among the other testimonies present inside the former slaughterhouse, the marble stele of Aurelio Patercolo, dated 2nd century. A.D. and the replica of the stele depicting one of the most illustrious inhabitants of Bordonchio, Egnatia Chila, created thanks to the collaboration with the Museum of the City of Rimini.
For lovers of vintage pieces and the history of the radio, inside the exhibition space in Piazzale Gramsci c/o the Bellaria I.M. railway station, there is the Museum of Vintage Radios. The Museum recounts the evolution of this important technology through the display of 140 radios from the 1930s and 1935s. The beauty of these objects is thus brought to light: symbols of a technological success that was overwhelming in the post-war period to the point of becoming fashion and design. The Museum houses various rare pieces such as the Marinelli 1929 radio, Crosly 1930, gramophones from 1940 and much more. The Museum joins "ReMus": Museum network of the two rivers - Marecchia and Uso.
