At the end of the fifteenth century Giovanni Sforza made some improvements on the occasion of his wedding to the very young Lucrezia Borgia. Restored one hundred years ago by the last owner, the engineer. UmbertomkZanvettori is today a museum house. On the visit route, which crosses two fully furnished noble floors, you can admire interesting works of art including the altarpiece painted by Giovanni Santi, Raphael's father, and the Della Robbia altarpiece.
According to literary tradition, in the rooms of the castle took place the tragic love story of Paolo and Francesca narrated by Dante in the V Canto of the Inferno. Today Gradara celebrates it with a cultural research on the myth of Francesca da Rimini as a heroine of female emancipation.
The MARV is the civic museum of Gradara, home to exhibitions and art exhibitions. The palace that houses it was built at the beginning of the eighteenth century by a nobleman of Gradara origin, the Archdeacon Giacomo Rubini, as the inscription on the portal recalls.
