In a fertile plain near Cesenatico is Gatteo which hosts small artistic treasures to be discovered such as the Malatesta Castle or the frescoes of San Rocco. As in the other municipalities of Romagna, you cannot pass through Gatteo without tasting the typical local products.
The castle was built in the XIII century. In August the courtyard of the castle is used for the staging of part of the traditional Patronal festival of San Lorenzo.
The oratory despite its simplicity is a real treasure of religious architecture, thanks to the frescoes that adorn the interior walls.
Along the last stretch of the Rubicone, at the point where the river meets the Adriatic, there is a concrete wharf sided by rocks. Stopping at the point where it ends to admire the sea gives special emotions and visions, which change with the changing of the light, the colors, the waves, the sea and its smell. It often happens that the people who meet at sunrise dance the Liscio, before starting the day, or take a walk along this pier, to get the right charge.
Advise: always have your camera with you, especially during the sunrise and the early morning hours, because the show, both in summer and in winter, is exciting.
