Pergola

Pesaro-Urbino

Marche

In the heart of the Cesano Valley in the province of Pesaro-Urbino lies the village of Pergola, known as the "town of 100 churches" rich in precious works of art. It is also an ideal stop for those who love truffles, to which a national fair is dedicated.

Village of Monterolo

Monterolo, a hamlet of Pergola, is a small village that stands on the top of a hill, 462 meters above sea level. It remained a free municipality until 1869, when it was annexed to the Municipality of Pergola. It still retains part of the walls. The parish church of S. Felicita houses a sixteenth-century crucifix on a panel. In the surroundings of Monterolo, along the road that leads to Montevecchio, there is Mount Santa Croce, with a large limestone escarpment facing south and clearly visible even from afar due to its white colour. Also near Monterolo, on a hill, is La Romita. It is a Franciscan convent of the Minor Observants built in 1373, currently partly dilapidated (the church and bell tower) and partly used as a residence. The annexed Chapel of the Montevecchio-Varano Counts has stuccos and traces of frescoes.

Village of Montesecco

Montesecco, a hamlet of Pergola, is a village located 456 meters above sea level. It is one of the most relevant and evocative panoramic points of the upper Cesano valley, from which you can admire both the Adriatic coast and Monte Catria. Montesecco has a centuries-old history, in fact it is already mentioned in some 13th century sources, even if there are reasons to believe it is much older. It enjoyed long periods of prosperity in past centuries and was an independent municipality until 1869. Montesecco can be entered from the main road that leads to one of the village's small squares, or from the ancient door in the lower part of the walls, which is the the only one left standing after the devastation of Napoleon's French troops who laid the town on fire in September 1808. Walking along the road that runs along the walls you arrive at the first small square where there are two churches: one dedicated to Santa Maria Assunta, home parish until 1987 dependent on the bishop of Fossombrone; the other, "the church" is dedicated to the S.S. Sacramento, as indicated on the small stone plaque above the portal. From the small square, after having admired the panorama with the expanse of hills that accompanies the gaze up to the Adriatic Sea, continuing uphill you reach the so-called castle square, the highest point of Montesecco. From here you can descend towards the lower part of the town along various steps and alleys until you reach another, larger square, where the Town Hall stands.

Food Experience

Ducio's Honey by Anna Mancini

We are a small family-run organic farm located in Pergola just 30 km from the sea and 10 km from Monte Catria in the Umbria-Marche Apennines in an area that contains all the sweetness of the marine climate and the harshness of the mountains. Our small production is guaranteed by around 50 hives located in various apiaries in the municipality of Pergola from where we obtain honey, honey, propolis and pollen.
