The territory of the municipality of Casola Valsenio, included in the hilly and mountainous area of the province of Ravenna, can be defined as the Little Italian Provence because of its close relationship with officinal plants, among which lavender stands out. The great attention for the green and the environment has favoured the birth of the "Garden of Herbs" and the renewal of a local cuisine to be discovered.
The house-museum of Alfredo Oriani (1852-1909) is called "Il Cardello". It rises on the remains of the ancient guest quarters of the Benedictine abbey of Valsenio, dating back to the XI century.
The Abbey of Valsenio was founded by the Benedictine Monks around the year 1000 and was perhaps the first inhabited area of the Senio Valley. Today, its vast guest quarters are the location of Il Cardello, Alfredo Orianìs house-museum.
The Herb Garden, inaugurated in 1975 and today named after its founder Augusto Rinaldi Ceroni, was created with the aim of preserving and cultivating plants of officinal and aromatic interest.
The Rocca is situated at the top of the watershed between the Senio and Santerno valleys. Monte Battaglia has been a national monument since 1931.
The trail goes along paths, roads and lanes, sided by some areas equipped for stops and picnics to enjoy the river environment.
