Pretty town in the province of Pesaro-Urbino rich in monuments, located along the ancient Via Flaminia 47 km from the sea. Every year the city of Cagli is animated in the second half of August from the historical palio, the "Giuoco dell'oca", that takes inspiration from the traditional board game and in which the four city quarters challenge each other.
The Torrione martiniano is part of an imposing system of fortifications designed by the Sienese architect Francesco di Giorgio Martini on commission of Duke Federico da Montefeltro.
The Municipal Theater of Cagli, a fine example of "Italian theater" was inaugurated in 1878 with the performance of the opera "The Devil's Violin" written for the occasion by composer Agostino Mercuri of nearby Sant'Angelo in Vado.
