Pianetto was presumably born in the Middle Ages along the road leading to the castle. The buildings facing the street are mainly dated to the XVII-XVIII century.

The Casello di Pianetto probably dates back to the eleventh-twelfth century, and currently in the state of ruins, you can see the circuit wall with defensive salients, the two access doors, a semicircular tower with a cistern inside and the tower.

The Museum was founded in the first decades of the twentieth century by Mons. Domenico Mambrini, Archpriest of Galeata, and today is located in the Renaissance Convent of the Conventual Minor Fathers of Pianetto.

The Convent of Pianetto was built between the end of 1400 and 1500, at the same time as the erection of the Renaissance church of S. Maria dei Miracoli.

Inside the Church of S. Maria dei Miracoli are kept precious paintings of 1500 and 1700 and fantastic sandstone decorations.

The visible structures, excavated in the '60s, are some parts of the baths, the theater with a Greek Hellenistic inspired plan and a small tank - cistern for the collection of water. The materials found during the archaeological research in the site, are exposed in the room dedicated to Mevaniola inside the civic museum of Pianetto.

It is possible to reach the abbey by walking along the " sentiero delle cellette" (40 minutes), which is the ancient way that pilgrims used to walk from Galeata to the monastery; the path starts immediately upstream the old sports field of Galeata.

Thanks to the recovery of the Association Via Romea Germanica, today this ancient itinerary counts - from Stade (Germany) to Rome - 1022 km and about 97 stages, described in detail on the official website of the path.

Along the historical-archaeological route, the visitor will find four stops - marked by panels with architectural elements in sandstone, the result of the wise work of our local stonemasons - with the description of four sections of the Park.
